The ASX 200 gained on concentrated large-cap support while small caps, technology and materials finished the week lower.

A Friday lift leaves the broader decline intact

The S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.40% for the week to 8,716.6 as large stocks supplied enough support to overcome weaker small caps, materials and technology. Its Friday rise of 0.64% recovered much of Thursday’s 0.77% fall. Commonwealth Bank of Australia (ASX:CBA) was among Friday’s largest contributors after weighing on the index in the previous session.

The week’s gain leaves the benchmark 1.20% above its 60-session low, reached before the week began, and 6.10% below its August high. It finished just above its 20-day average but remained below its 50-day and 200-day averages. The All Ordinaries rose 0.26% over the week to 8,877.7, a smaller gain than the ASX 200’s.
