Beetaloo Energy Australia (ASX: BTL) has completed a 30-day initial production flow test at the Carpentaria-5H well, achieving an average rate of 6.9 terajoules per day.
The Northern Territory shale gas well recorded a peak rate above 14 terajoules per day and finished the test at 6.7TJ/day after maintaining a low rate of decline.
The stable production profile supports the previously estimated 2C recoverable gas resource of approximately 10 petajoules at the well location.
Carpentaria-5H has now been shut in and will be tied into the Carpentaria Gas Plant alongside the Carpentaria-2H and Carpentaria-3H wells ahead of planned pilot production.
Beetaloo Energy anticipates commissioning the Carpentaria plant during the fourth quarter of 2026 before commencing first gas sales from the pilot project.
Stable Extended Production
The latest test began on 11 June 2026 and followed an earlier 30-day clean-up period that averaged 7.1TJ/day and recorded an exit rate of 6.3TJ/day.
Beetaloo Energy used a smaller choke setting during the latest period, yet the average and exit rates remained broadly consistent across the two consecutive tests.
The increase to 6.7TJ/day during the IP30 program has reinforced the company’s expectations for sustained gas deliverability.
The extended testing campaign has also generated production and reservoir performance data that will inform future development activity at the company’s wholly owned EP187 tenement.
Completion Design and Clean-Up
Drilled into the B Shale of the Velkerri Formation, Carpentaria-5H incorporates a 3,310-metre horizontal section, of which 2,955m was fracture stimulated.
The completion comprised 67 slickwater stages using approximately 11,000t of proppant at an average intensity of 2,295 pounds per foot.
Its longer lateral and approximately double the stimulation fluid intensity of the earlier Carpentaria wells required a longer and higher-volume flowback period.
Water production declined from about 1,300 barrels per day to approximately 440 barrels per day during the IP30 test but remained above the exit rates recorded at Carpentaria-2H and Carpentaria-3H, indicating that clean-up was continuing.
Important Company Milestone
Managing director Alex Underwood called the C-5H results an “important milestone” for the company.
“The well has now delivered stable production performance across an extended testing period, providing further confidence in the quality of the Velkerri Shale at Carpentaria,” he said.
“Importantly, C-5H continued to demonstrate strong and consistent gas rates during clean-up, highlighting the quality of the reservoir and supporting our previously estimated recoverable gas resource at the well location.”
“As we move closer to commissioning the Carpentaria Gas Plant and achieving first gas sales from the pilot project, we are increasingly focused on converting this resource opportunity into long-term value for shareholders.”
Carpentaria-5H will form part of the initial production group with Carpentaria-2H and Carpentaria-3H as the business advances from exploration and appraisal towards gas production.
