xReality Group’s Operator XR Wins $5.7m Texas Law Enforcement Contract For OP-2 Tactical Training System

xReality Group’s (ASX: XRG) wholly-owned US subsidiary Operator XR has won a contract of up to $5.7 million to supply its flagship OP-2 training system to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) in Texas.
It represents the largest order for the OP-2 system to date, and will see the technology deployed for statewide law enforcement training.
The contract comprises a $4.3m initial order for OP-2 software licenses and virtual reality (VR) training systems – including implementation, training and two years of technical support – with an option for a further three years of additional support valued at $1.4m.
Advanced Training System
OP-2 is an advanced mission rehearsal and training system that combines tactical training and law enforcement solutions with cutting-edge features such as personalised training scenarios, an extensive asset library of high-quality, pre-built scenes and interactive props, VR-ready floorplans, and real-time scenario editing to address specific training needs as they arise.
The system can help agencies to refine skills in the areas of close quarter battles, use-of-force decision-making, crisis intervention and de-escalation, active shooter incidents, and hostage rescue.
Operator XR, which offers the OP-2 system, has become a core growth asset for xReality, with rapid expansion to more than 50 customers across 30 US federal agencies, state and city police and sheriff departments.
Law Enforcement Agency
Texas DPS is responsible for highway patrol and traffic safety, statewide criminal investigations – including the Texas Rangers division, which is oldest state law enforcement agency in North America – and also manages driver’s licensing and regulatory services, state crime laboratories and co-ordination with local and federal partners on major incidents and homeland security.
Located in the second-largest US state by population and area, the DPS is a significant entity with substantial operational scale, managing safety and security for over 30 million residents.
xReality chief executive officer Wayne Jones said the company was proud to partner with one of the largest law enforcement agencies in the US.
“The department’s selection of Operator XR underscores the readiness of our platform for statewide deployment and […] expands our footprint with a high-credibility reference customer while helping officers train more often, more safely and with better outcomes for the communities they serve,” he said.
Growth Program Grant
xReality has received a $2.1m grant under the Australian government’s Industry Growth Program to enhance Operator XR’s VR tactical training offering across global law enforcement and defence markets.
The grant – to be distributed in quarterly instalments over a two-year period, commencing this month – will accelerate the company’s integration of advanced AI and cloud services into the OP-2 training system and achieve a suite of global security and quality certifications required for large defence and government contracts.
xReality will also apply funds towards new additive manufacturing equipment and electronics design to double the manufacturing capacity of training weapons at xReality’s Sydney headquarters.
“This grant will allow us to fast-track Operator XR’s AI roadmap and position it as the market leader in tactical simulation, increasing the training return on investment for customers and for our company’s growth,” Mr Jones added.
