Lake Resources (ASX: LKE) is advancing its Kachi lithium brine project in Catamarca, Argentina, as the company works towards the commercial agreements and financing needed for further development.
In an interview recorded at IMARC in Sydney on 29 October 2026, James Whelan speaks with Lake’s Managing Director and CEO David Dickson and His Excellency Máximo Gowland, Argentina’s Ambassador to Australia, about the relationship between Australian mining expertise and Argentina’s critical minerals sector.
Gowland describes interest in Argentina’s lithium and copper opportunities and the potential for closer cooperation with Australian companies. Dickson points to Australian capabilities in exploration, technology and project development as a complement to Argentina’s resource base. These are the guests’ assessments of the opportunity, rather than commitments to particular investments.
Kachi’s environmental approval is a central topic. Lake announced that it had received its Environmental Impact Declaration in September 2026. Dickson describes the milestone as making the project “shovel ready”, while explaining that offtake agreements, capital raising and further development work remain ahead. The approval does not establish that financing, construction or production is complete.
The guests also discuss Argentina’s RIGI investment framework. Lake’s application remains pending at the time of the interview. Benefits under the regime depend on eligibility and admission; they should not be treated as incentives already secured by Lake.
Dickson discusses direct lithium extraction as an alternative to large evaporation ponds and explains why supply-chain provenance matters to vehicle manufacturers. His comments about environmental benefits reflect management’s assessment. Energy use and environmental outcomes depend on the particular technology, site and operating conditions.
Lake’s possible 2030–31 production timing is discussed as a management ambition. Development, financing, approvals and market conditions will influence progress, and the interview does not guarantee an outcome or future lithium price.
