Software company Vection Technologies (ASX: VR1) received an operational boost after being accepted into Autodesk’s global outsight network residency program.

The acceptance and cross-collaboration with Autodesk means Vection can progress with its Microsoft Hololens 2 Autodesk Request For Proposal (RFP), through its North American Mindesk division.

The news follows on from Vection’s recent Horizon 2020 grant, which is set to bestow the company with approximately $400,000 (80% of the total grant) by the end of this month.

Moreover, earlier this week the real-time software company unveiled it had qualified for the Facebook Oculus Independent Software Vendor (ISV) program, an initiative that works with enterprise developers and ISVs to accelerate customer adoption of virtual reality solutions built by Oculus.

Vection said the acceptance means it will collaborate with Autodesk’s technology centres and the Microsoft “mixed reality team” to integrate Mindesk XR software with the Microsoft Hololens 2 device to impact the industries of architecture, construction and manufacturing.

Importantly, the announcement was firmed up with a six-month objective in which Vection said the move aligned with its focus on integrating Mindesk suite with leading computer aided design (CAD) and building information modelling (BIM) software.

According to market research, Autodesk is the leading CAD/BIM company with 11 million active users in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry.

“The collaboration with Autodesk and Microsoft is a strategic initiative aimed at the integration of Vection’s XR technology into the leading BIM software and AR hardware, further reinforcing our strong intention to establish a long-term presence in the US market,” Vection managing director Gianmarco Biagi said.

“The management team remains strongly committed to the achievement of the six-months objectives, with initiatives to pursue long-term revenue generation coming to fruition during the second half of the current financial year, aligned with the June 2022 50% ARR goal,” Mr Biagi said.

Going forward with integration

With respect to the Revit and Hololens 2 integration, Vection said the initial success of the Mindesk virtual reality platform for Rhinoceros and Solidworks CAD software would mean the company will progress with its integration strategy with Autodesk Revit and Microsoft Hololens 2.

Calling the development a “strategic technology advancement” that would enable “unprecedented workflows”, Vection said Mindesk-based AR design reviews will introduce real-time interaction and editing of BIM assets, in addition to visualisation.

“The integration with Revit will allow the Company to tap into an 11 million user base to further accelerate its growth strategy,” said Gabriele Sorrento, director of Vection and chief executive officer of Mindesk.

“Revit is the most adopted BIM platform in the AEC industry and both existing and potential Mindesk customers have been waiting for Virtual and Augmented Reality to be natively integrated with their preferred BIM software. This development consolidates the ongoing relation with existing customers as it unlocks the synergic use of Rhinoceros and Revit into an immersive and collaborative workspace,” he said.
