Trigg has unveiled a drainable indicated resource of 1.9Mt SOP at 4,985mg/l of potassium.

Initial drilling at Trigg Mining’s (ASX: TMG) Lake Throssell sulphate of potash (SOP) project has generated high grade results.

Aircore drilling within the project’s basal aquifers has produced SOP grading up to 11,519 milligrams per litre.

A maiden aircore drilling program kicked-off at Lake Throssell in late November last year. The program is 50% complete with 16 holes undertaken for 1,806m.

Drilling targeted the northern half of the project area and has confirmed the presence of a broad palaeovalley.

The palaeovalley is at least 1km wide – potentially up to 4km thick in places – and about 100m deep.

All-up, 74 brine samples were collected during the first drilling phase and were submitted for analysis before Christmas.

Assays received so far have confirmed the high grade nature of the SOP, with an average grade of 9,722mg/L SOP. About 93% of assays at hand exceeded 9,000mg/L SOP, with 32% of samples having grades exceeding 10,000mg/L SOP.

Additionally, brine chemistry has indicated “favourable characteristics” for solar evaporation and lower waste salt levels.

Trigg managing director Keren Paterson described the assay results as “excellent”.

“The provides the first definitive indication that we have a high-grade sulphate of potash discovery at Lake Throssell in both the surficial aquifer and the underlying palaeovalley.”

Advancing Lake Throssell

Trigg noted today’s results follow on from drilling that targeted the project’s surface aquifer mid-last year and confirm the project’s high grade nature.

That program comprised 26 holes of shallow rotary drilling – hitting up to 10m depths and generating average grades of 11,300mg/L SOP with a peak grade of 14,500mg/L SOP.

Aircore drilling at the project is due to restart later this month with assays anticipated from the remainder of drilling by early March.

A maiden resource is anticipated to be released in the June quarter once Trigg has received all assays from the aircore drilling program.

Meanwhile, Trigg is also calculating an exploration target for the project, and plans to release it next month.
