Trigg Mining confirms high-grade potash discovery at Lake Throssell ahead of maiden resource estimate

Trigg Mining’s maiden air core drilling program has confirmed an extensive palaeovalley system up to 5km wide at its WA potash project.

Trigg Mining (ASX: TMG) is set to deliver a maiden JORC resource at its Lake Throssell sulphate of potash (SOP) project next quarter following the successful completion of an initial air core drilling program.

The explorer today revealed drilling at its wholly-owned Western Australian project has confirmed the presence of an extensive palaeovalley system measuring up to 36km long, 5km wide and 100m deep with evidence of multiple aquifers at varying depths.

Drilling encountered sands and gravels of up to 35m in thickness in places, the company added.

This maiden program was completed in two phases between December and February, halting temporarily due to bad weather then being expanded in the second phase to total 54 holes for 5,623m.

New samples comparable to earlier results

Trigg said field analysis of salinity has indicated the recently drilled southern portion of the palaeovalley has comparable salinity to the northern portion, where brine assays returned grades of up to 11,519 milligrams per litre (11.5kg/m³) SOP equivalent with an average grade of 9,772mg/L (9.8kg/m³).

In addition, significant fluvial glacial deposits appear more prevalent in the southern portion, which suggests a possible increase in the potential brine volume and a higher concentration of aquifer targets for future production bores, the company reported.

Trigg managing director Keren Paterson said the company is “encouraged and excited” by what has been seen in the drilling so far.

“Importantly, there is clear evidence of the presence of multiple aquifers across the profile, which suggests the potential for multiple production sources,” she said.

Brine samples from the recent second phase of drilling have been submitted for laboratory analysis with results expected at the end of March or early April.

Maiden SOP resource anticipated next quarter

Ms Paterson said work has already commenced on the geological model required to underpin a maiden JORC mineral resource estimate, which is expected to be completed “next quarter”.

“This will provide a foundation for economic studies and is only the beginning of the resource story at Lake Throssell with roughly two-thirds of the strike potential within the current project area still untested.”
