Tivan and the CSIRO have collaborated on an optimal processing pathway for vanadiferous titanomagnetite deposits and have developed TIVAN+, which is ongoing continued refining.

Tivan (ASX: TVN) has confirmed the development and commercialisation of its Tivan+ mineral processing technology will become the preferred pathway for facilitation of its vanadiferous titanomagnetite (VTM) projects.

The company said a hybridised Tivan+ process route would be an “optimal path” to delivering its Mount Peake vanadium-titanium-iron project in the Northern Territory and the recently-acquired Speewah project in Western Australia.

It also views a commercial advantage in the potential for a hybridised Tivan+ process route to produce titanium ilmenite feedstock as an intermediate product.

The technology is reported to have potential for significant reductions in capital and operating costs and environmental impacts.

CSIRO partnership

Tivan has engaged in an ongoing partnership with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation to advance the Tivan+ technology pathway and project facilitations.

The company’s novel Tivan mineral processing technology has been designed to commercialise VTM deposits by producing vanadium pentoxide, titanium dioxide and iron oxide fines from a facility at the Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct in Darwin.

Over the past four months, Tivan and CSIRO have engaged in extensive knowledge sharing on their respective VTM techniques with a view to developing Tivan+, which has been considered an optimal VTM processing technology pathway based on defined aspects of their respective flowsheets.

Tivan’s board is reported to be “highly supportive” of an ongoing partnership with CSIRO to further develop the Tivan+ technology pathway.

The partnership is believed to offer Tivan access to Australian-based technical expertise and laboratory resources to expedite further testwork and development processes.

Speewah delivery pathway

Tivan has undertaken a detailed project planning review to establish the delivery pathway and indicative timeline for the Speewah project.

The delivery pathway will facilitate initial capital and operating costs, as well as a project execution plan, culminating in a front-end engineering and design (FEED) study in support of a final investment decision.

The company is currently finalising the engagement of an engineering group to lead the scoping study.

The study will extend to beneficiation and non-process infrastructure at Speewah, leveraging off work completed in these areas by the previous owner King River Resources (ASX: KRR).
