Titomic solidifies Triton partnership with sale of D523 cold spray unit

Additive manufacturing company Titomic (ASX: TTT) has sold a low-pressure D523 cold spray unit to long-term partner Triton Systems.

The $72,000 sale marks another step in the ongoing collaboration between Titomic and Triton, enabling Triton to develop novel solutions based on Titomic’s cold spray technology.

This follows Triton’s purchase of a $1.2 million custom kinetic fusion (TKF) system in May and demonstrates the company’s commitment to leveraging Titomic’s cutting-edge cold spray technology for both low and high-pressure applications.

Strengthening partnership

Titomic managing director Herbert Koeck welcomed the latest sale.

“We are pleased to see that our partnership with Triton continues to strengthen with the sale of the D523 system,” he said.

“It demonstrates our ongoing commitment to working closely to bring new capabilities to the US manufacturing market.”

“We are confident that Triton is well-equipped to develop and implement innovative solutions that meet the industry’s evolving needs and we look forward to working with the team to drive the future of advanced manufacturing.”

Cutting-edge capabilities

Triton executive Dr Bryer Sousa said Titomic’s equipment would continue to provide Triton with cutting-edge capabilities.

“Titomic is driving innovation in integrated and modular cold spray systems and providing custom solutions for specific needs and applications,” he said.

“The company’s technology aligns with our mission to develop high-performance materials and processes and we look forward to furthering our collaboration to push the boundaries of manufacturing.”

Advanced technique

Cold spray additive manufacturing rapidly fuses powdered metals, ceramics and polymers without melting them by using a supersonic spraying nozzle loaded with a heated high-pressure carrier gas to accelerate particles at high velocities.

Particles kinetically deposit onto the targeted surface by interlocking mechanically and bonding metallurgically.

Through this process, materials are fused below their melting temperatures (hence the name cold spray), minimising distortion and oxidation.

Titomic’s high-pressure cold spray is used to spray high-strength metals and alloys with compressed gas at up to 1,000 pounds per square inch, while its low-pressure cold spray is used on soft metals and metal-ceramic mixes with compressed gases at below 300psi.
