Drilling at Tesoro Resources’ Ternera deposit has generated another wide intercept with the latest comprising 116m at 0.98g/t gold, including 17m at 2.92g/t gold.

Extensional drilling at the Ternera deposit within the El Zorro gold project in Chile has intercepted more wide mineralised zones for owner Tesoro Resources (ASX: TSO).

Assays for six diamond drill holes from the 60,000m program intercepted gold mineralisation, with the new zones improving continuity and broadening existing zones within the resource model.

Additional sampling returned the 20th gold intercept of more than 100 grams per metre from a lower mineralised zone at Ternera, with a best assay of 116m at 0.98 grams per tonne gold from 264m, including 35m at 1.73g/t gold from 269m; 17m at 2.92g/t gold from 270m; 23m at 1.77g/t gold from 340m; and 3m at 7.16g/t gold from 356m.

Improved continuity

Other assays continued to improve continuity and broaden mineralised zones at the deposit as well as expand the zones from surface to the east.

Highlights were 180m at 0.35g/t gold from 0.4m, including 11.6m at 1.31g/t gold from 0.4m; 6.5m at 2.11g/t gold from 2.5m; 21.5m at 0.81g/t gold from 42m; and 29m at 0.62g/t gold from 152m, including 3.35m at 2.58g/t gold from 159.5m.

Also reported were intercepts of 45m at 0.8g/t gold from 494m, including 19m at 1.41g/t gold, and 7.51m at 2.67g/t gold, both from 496m.

Solid set of results

Managing director Zeff Reeves said he was pleased with the “solid set” of results.

“These results have extended and improved continuity within mineralised zones at the Ternera deposit [and] it is exciting to see that the more drilling we do, the larger the deposit is becoming,” he said.

“We are in the enviable position of drilling a mineralised body which continues to deliver outstanding drill results and remains open in all directions … we have not yet found the edges of this growing gold system.”

Next steps

Mr Reeves said drilling at El Zorro would continue to focus on infill and extensional areas at Ternera, along with additional targets at Ternera East, Drone Hill and Toro Blanco.

The company will periodically assess the growth of Ternera as drilling is completed and assays are received.

It has previously identified several high priority extensions to the southeast and north of the deposit and 3D modelling has identified wide zones of mineralisation open along strike and down dip.

Tesoro is still awaiting results from 42 diamond drill holes previously completed as part of the current program.
