Extensional and infill drilling at Tesoro Resources’ (ASX: TSO) Ternera prospect within the El Zorro gold project in Chile has confirmed a continuity of mineralisation and extended the prospect’s known gold zones.

Assays for six diamond drill holes returned multiple gold intercepts and proved the mineralisation remains open in all directions with scope for continued mineral resource growth.

Best results were 24.43 metres at 3.43 grams per tonne gold from 483.57m and 10.7m at 6.51g/t from 491.3m, within 84m at 1.16g/t from 436.5m; 13.5m at 1.21g/t gold from 72m and 3m at 1.56g/t from 214m; and 2m at 2.91g/t gold from 233m and 1.35m at 5.31g/t from 245.75m, within 14.1m at 0.94g/t from 233m.

Also reported was 6m at 1.82g/t gold from 247m within 13.7m at 1.07g/t from 247m; 4m at 1.44g/t gold from 314.5m; and 5.06m at 1.17g/t gold from 421m.

Tesoro is awaiting assays for a further 12 diamond holes, after which it will commence work on an updated mineral resource estimate.

Consistency of mineralisation

Tesoro managing director Zeff Reeves said the consistency of gold mineralisation at Ternera continues to be impressive.

“Over recent months, we have seen vast improvements in grade continuity and widths, particularly in the three higher grade gold zones within the deposit,” he said.

“Furthermore, Ternera remains open in all directions with some wide zones of mineralisation offering excellent potential for further mineral resource expansion.”

Maiden resource

Tesoro has now completed 300 diamond drill holes at Ternera for a total 100,235m.

A maiden resource announced in July of 25.1 million tonnes at 0.8 grams per tonne gold for 660,000 ounces of contained metal was underpinned by 148 holes for 45,503m.

Using a 0.5g/t gold cut-off, the resource totals 15.4Mt at 1.09g/t gold for 540,000oz.

Expanded footprint

Earlier this month, Tesoro expanded El Zorro’s footprint by 22 square kilometres when it acquired new concession holdings along the project’s prospective gold corridor.

The company’s exploration team has commenced detailed surface mapping and sampling programs across the concessions to identify new targets for drilling in the coming months.
