Synertec rounds out water industry engagement strategy with SCADA panel appointment

Engineering solutions company Synertec (ASX: SOP) has been appointed to Sydney Water Corporation’s supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and electrical services panel, providing it with access to as much as $245 million in water-related project work over the next five years.
Synertec is one of up to seven companies on the panel, each of which specialise in delivering operational technology services for the water sector throughout Greater Sydney.
Solutions to be delivered within the panel and for Sydney Water’s three regional delivery partners will include control systems, electrical and instrumentation, communication systems, SCADA and cyber security.
Largest water utility
Sydney Water is Australia’s largest water utility, servicing more than five million people across Sydney, the Blue Mountains and the Illawarra region.
It manages an extensive network comprising 248 reservoirs, 16 wastewater treatment plants, 152 drinking water pumping stations and over 22,000 kilometres of water mains.
Sydney Water has appointed the regional partners to support the delivery of its $34 billion infrastructure investment over the next 10 years.
The regional partners appointed so far are Confluence Water, which services Sydney Water’s north region; Delivering4Customers, servicing the south; and the West Regional Delivery Team, servicing the west.
Water Corporation panel
The Sydney Water deal follows Synertec’s appointment in February to the Water Corporation’s process control technologies panel, which will see it provide project and maintenance services across Western Australia over five years.
The panel aims to deliver approximately $50m of water-related services to its seven members.
Synertec has also been engaged by Melbourne Water since 2007 on a continuous basis to provide 24/7 automation and control systems engineering support, plant optimisations and project management to a range of facilities across the state’s infrastructure network.
Engagement strategy
Synertec managing director Michael Carroll said the appointments rounded out the company’s water industry engagement strategy.
“We provide mission-critical control system engineering services to major water utilities, and that work now covers the three major water industry utilities within Victoria, WA and New South Wales,” he said.
“This provides exciting potential to significantly grow our revenue because, in each state, Synertec is one of a handful of companies prequalified to do such critical work—it is a significant and exciting strategic development that positions us well into the future.”
