Junior explorer Southern Cross Gold (ASX: SXG) has intersected its third best hole on record during drilling at the Sunday Creek gold project in Victoria.

The hole was designed to test five high-grade vein sets and returned nine intercepts grading more than 15 grams per tonne gold (up to 188.8g/t) and six of more than 5% antimony (up to 22.5%).

The company recorded a best result of 312 metres at 1.4g/t gold equivalent (AuEq) (1.1g/t gold and 0.2% antimony) from 240.1m with no lower cut.

It is considered to be the greatest down dip extension of mineralisation to date on the eastern end of the main mineralised body at Sunday Creek.

Highlight assays

Highlight assays included 0.5m at 8.1g/t AuEq (8.1g/t gold) from 240.1m; 0.3m at 17.4g/t AuEq (4.4g/t gold and 8.3% antimony) from 243.6m; 0.2m at 34.1g/t AuEq (26.3g/t gold and 5.0% antimony) from 297.2m; 0.5m at 5.4g/t AuEq (4.5g/t gold and 0.6% antimony) from 431.8m; and 0.2m at 18.9g/t AuEq (8.4g/t gold and 6.6% antimony) from 506.5m.

Other results were 10.5m at 5.8g/t AuEq (4.2g/t gold and 1.0% antimony) from 302.8m including 0.2m at 18.3g/t AuEq (18.3g/t gold) from 306.2m, 1m at 23.1g/t AuEq (12.8g/t gold and 6.5% antimony) from 308m and 1.5m at 17.4g/t AuEq (14.2g/t gold and 2% antimony) from 311m.

Third best intersection

Managing director Michael Hudson said the hole delivered the third best intersection on the Sunday Creek project to date.

“We hit multiple high-grade intercepts in the deepest hole at the eastern end of the prospect area… it is the third best hit on the project to date multiple high grades over a downhole length of 312m,” he said.

“This hole is the depth extension of a previous hole which also intersected a wide mineralised footprint with high grade components… it demonstrates Sunday Creek’s regularity of high-grades veins, scale and continuity of mineralisation.”

Fully permitted and funded

Mr Hudson said the company was fully-permitted and fully-funded to continue exploration at the project, with four rigs working the main drill area and up to 7.5 kilometres along strike.

“We are ahead of schedule and have 15,000m remaining to drill in our 2023 drill program.”

“Continuous results will be released for the remainder of this year, as we continue to derisk Sunday Creek, which in my view is one of the most exciting and high-grade gold discoveries globally, given the frequency of high-grade hits,” he added.
