Resolution Minerals (ASX: RML) has officially kick-off its much anticipated maiden drilling program at the 64North gold project in Alaska which is adjacent to Northern Star Resources’ (ASX: NST) Goodpaster discovery and operating Pogo gold mine.

Drilling will initially focus on the Aurora gold targets at 64North, which Resolution claims have “significant geophysical similarities” to Northern Star’s Goodpaster deposit and Pogo mine.

“Our immediate aim is to drill test for Pogo-style mineralisation on a series of look-a-like geophysical features to Northern Star’s Goodpaster discovery and Pogo gold mine,” Resolution managing director Duncan Chessell explained.

“The team has done a great job establishing a road and associated preparation to be ready for winter drilling activities and demonstrates our capability to operation year-round on this project,” he added.

The current four-to-five hole diamond drilling program will comprise a total of 2,000m with first assays expected back mid-next month.

Resolution is using Ruen Drilling as the drilling contractor, which is the same contractor Northern Star uses at Pogo.

In addition to firming up the Aurora targets, Resolution will also be evaluating the regional prospectivity of 64North, which encompasses 660 square kilometres of tenements.

The company plans to line up a pipeline of drill-ready targets across its landholding and is fully funded for multiple drilling programs after recently raising $4.5 million.

Nearby Pogo gold operation

Resolution’s 64North project is adjacent to Pogo, which began producing in 2006.

The mine generates 300,000 ounces of gold annually at an average grade of 13 grams per tonne.

Pogo’s current reserves and resources exceed 6 million ounces of contained gold, with the project also hosting the Goodpaster discovery, which is along strike and adjacent to 64North.

Drill results from Goodpaster have included 4m at 67.5g/t gold, 5.2m at 15.7g/t gold, 0.3m at 129g/t gold, and 2.1m at 44.5g/t gold.

Northern Star has identified about 2.3km of strike at Goodpaster with mineralisation remaining open in all directions.

Resolution can earn up to 80% of 64North after executing a joint venture with TSXV-listed Millrock Resources in October last year.
