After 20 months of fieldwork, desktop reviews, geophysics surveys and logistics planning, Resolution Minerals (ASX: RML) has commenced drilling at the East Pogo target within the 64North project in Alaska’s Tintina gold province.

The 2,000m shallow reverse circulation program has been designed to test compelling high-grade Pogo-style targets up to 150m from surface and located along the Pogo Trend between Northern Star Resources’ (ASX: NST) 11 million ounce Pogo gold mine and Tectonic Metals’ high-grade Tibbs discovery.

The program will be carried out over three weeks, with results expected by end July.

Understanding the geology

Resolution managing director Duncan Chessell said the lengthy lead-up to drilling allowed the company to gain a stronger understanding of the 64North geology.

“Our geology team has deployed cutting-edge geophysics, reviewed all historical works and conducted multiple drilling campaigns [at 64North] to better refine our targeting methodology,” he said.

“East Pogo has emerged as the best prospect to deliver high-grade gold or Pogo-style results, near surface [and] we are very excited to see the results of this program.”

Regional surveys

Last year, Resolution conducted CSAMT (controlled-source audio-frequency magnetotellurics), ZTEM (Z‐tipper axis electromagnetic) and magnetic geophysical surveys over the East Pogo prospect region including the historic Boundary prospect which has previously reported narrow high-grade gold mineralisation from diamond core drilling.

Using knowledge gained from the geophysics systems at West Pogo, as well as subsequent drilling programs and surveys over known gold mineralisation at Northern Star’s Goodpaster discovery, Resolution was able to delineate a set of compelling shallow drill targets at East Pogo.

The company’s geology team has interpreted a low angle shear to be analogous to the regional shear which hosts the Pogo gold mine’s Liese Vein lodes and is present at a shallow depth at East Pogo.

Resolution has also interpreted that the mineralisation does not appear to outcrop as it is shallow dipping.

Drill targets of up to 200m depth have been designed to test this model.

“The right host rocks are present in the area and the presence of high-grade narrow gold mineralisation up to 35 grams per tonne gold in historic drill holes infers East Pogo is a highly-prospective location,” Mr Chessell said.
