Advanced gold explorer Navarre Minerals (ASX: NML) has reported significant assay results from a reconnaissance aircore drilling program completed at its fully-owned Langi Logan gold project in Victoria’s prolific central goldfields.

The 3,400m program – part of the company’s ongoing 12,000m regional drilling campaign – tested the prospective east and west margins of the Langi Logan basalt dome over a total of 56 holes.

Best intercepts from the east flank included 2m at 1.2 grams per tonne gold from 46m, and 2m at 1g/t from 12m; while the west flank produced 1m at 2.4g/t from 57m, and 1m at 1.1g/t from 30m.

The results complement previous shallow aircore drill intercepts returned from the east flank of 11m at 5.1g/t gold from within a broader interval of 33m at 2.9g/t; 2m at 19.4g/t gold, including 1m at 33.6g/t; 1m at 21.2g/t gold; 7m at 2.4g/t gold, including 1m at 11.1g/t; and 4m at 1.7g/t gold within a broader zone of 28m at 0.6 g/t.

Major south-dipping fault

Navarre said the drilling results suggest the existence of a major east-west trending fault that displaces the northern end of the Langi Logan basalt dome 1.5km to the west, creating a new prospective area previously unrecognised.

The faulting extends the known area of potential gold mineralisation by up to 2.5km, and expands the total strike extent of the project’s basalt dome to 14.5km.

Similar faulting patterns are also believed to be a feature of the greater 70km-long Stawell Gold Corridor project, which hosts the producing 4 million ounce Magdala gold mine 40km to the north and on-strike.

Stawell potential

Managing director Ian Holland said the drilling results further enhance the potential of Stawell Corridor ground, which covers 70km of strike length and includes the company’s flagship Irvine project where Navarre announced last month it had hit more high-grade gold.

“While we are still at an early stage of exploration, the results to date continue to support our view that this mineralised corridor has potential to host several multi-million ounce gold systems across a significant area,” he said.

Historical production

The Langi Logan project sits in an area of significant historical deep lead production, with 133,000oz of gold produced to date.

The acreage comprises four potentially fault-bound segments of a Cambrian basalt dome structure known as Langi Logan North Extension, Langi Logan North, Langi Logan Central and Langi Logan South.

Approximately 70% of the project area is covered by post-mineralisation Newer Volcanics ranging from a few metres to 30m in thickness.

Mr Holland said the Langi Logan basalt dome is the next major prospect for Magdala-style mineralisation south of the Irvine basalt dome.
