Provaris Energy plans to produce up to 100,000tpa of green hydrogen from its project on the Northern Territory’s Tiwi Islands.

A stakeholder meeting with the Tiwi Land Council has reconfirmed support for Provaris Energy’s (ASX: PV1) Tiwi H2 green hydrogen production and export project in the Northern Territory.

The company noted a stakeholder meeting had been held earlier this week with the council, which resulted in the Munupi landowners reiterating support for the project.

Securing reconfirmed support paves the way for Provaris to begin drafting a Section 19 land agreement.

It also enables Provaris to proceed with existing permissions granted for on-country geotechnical surveys and solar monitoring.

Provaris executive director and chief development officer Garry Triglavcanin said negotiations with the Munupi clan had begun in October last year.

“We thank the Munupi clan for the spirit of consultation to date and permissions granted, and now look forward to developing the benefits to the community in parallel with the drafting and execution of all land agreements required during detailed feasibility stages,” Mr Triglavcanin added.

The land agreements will clarify the value and definition of the “annual multi-million community benefits package” Provaris’ Tiwi H2 project could bring to the Munupi clan and Tiwi residents.

Advancing Tiwi H2 project

Provaris’ proposed Tiwi H2 project is located on the Tiwi Islands in the NT and secured major project status from the NT Government in August this year.

Previous negotiations with the Munupi people gave Provaris specific permissions to support completion of a design concept study for the project as well as a NT Environmental Protection Authority referral submission.

Further approvals have now been secured that allow Provaris to undertake aerial drone surveys and geotechnical work to better define the proposed solar precinct and transmission infrastructure for the asset.

Provaris plans to use solar energy to produce up to 100,000 tonnes per annum of green hydrogen for export markets.

The hydrogen will be exported using Provaris’ proprietary compressed hydrogen shipping carriers to markets in the Asia Pacific.

By using solar to generate up to 100,000tpa of green hydrogen it is estimated the project could offset up to 900,000tpa of carbon dioxide across power production, mobility and industrial applications.
