Koba managing director Ben Vallerine says the new projects are in two of the world’s best lithium provinces.

Copied

Perth-based Pure Resources (ASX: PR1) has identified multiple pegmatite occurrences during reconnaissance fieldwork at the Laforge lithium project in Canada, with visual spodumene samples fluoresced under ultraviolet light.

Extensive snow cover saw the mapping and sampling program limited to less than 5% of the 270 square kilometre project area, which sits within the Laforge greenstone belt and 65km northeast of the Corvette lithium property owned by Patriot Battery Metals (ASX: PMT).

Accessible outcropping areas

Canadian consultant Apex Geoscience focused on accessible outcropping areas where the snow had been windswept in an effort to sample rock types prospective for lithium, gold and base metals, with a focus on zones of migmatitic and mylonitic outcrop and metasediment packages.

The team uncovered outcropping pegmatites to the north and northwest and confirmed the presence of pegmatites previously mapped by Québec’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources in the eastern portion of the claims.

All-up, 240 rock samples were collected and submitted to a local ALS testing laboratory for preparation and multi-element analysis with results expected by end February.

Visual spodumene

Preliminary field observations noted the presence of spodumene and pyrite mineralisation prospective for lithium and gold.

Three samples contained visual spodumene which fluoresced under ultraviolet light.

Pure said further investigation would be required to fully evaluate the mineralogy of the rock samples including the extent and tenor of possible lithium mineralisation.

Enhancing prospectivity

Executive chairman Patric Glovac said the reconnaissance program enhanced the prospectivity of the Laforge project.

“While greenfields in nature, this project is situated in the same geological province and exhibits analogous rock types, structural settings and geophysical properties as the Corvette lithium trend,” he said.

“We believe Laforge represents a genuine opportunity to discover a significant lithium deposit in a tier one jurisdiction and we are excited with the early observations from our recent geological site visit … we look forward to accelerating exploration once the snow clears in an effort to identify more outcropping pegmatites over the remaining landholding.”
