Positive news continues for Tesoro at El Zorro with Buzzard gold assays
Several holes returned more wide zones of near surface gold mineralisation.
Tesoro Resources’ (ASX: TSO) El Zorro project in Chile has provided more good news for the company after channel and rock chip sampling at the Buzzard prospect returned numerous high-grade gold assays.
Sampling across the Buzzard prospect has identified a large gold bearing vein system that extends about 1.1km in length and 750m in width and is open in all directions.
Highlight assays were 3m at 5.23 grams per tonne gold, 6m at 7.06g/t gold, and 1m at 2.55g/t gold.
“The early stage results from Buzzard further demonstrate the potential of the El Zorro gold system with gold now identified over 5km of strike at multiple prospects,” Tesoro managing director Zeff Reeves said.
“The Buzzard vein system is extensive and with these results have highlighted large-scale potential, which will require additional work to further understand.”
These results were the final assays from 200 first pass rock and channel samples collected across Buzzard.
The 5km of strike now identified at El Zorro covers Buzzard, Ternera and Toro Blanco prospects.
Advancing Ternera
Tesoro noted that Buzzard is 2km south of the primary Ternera prospect and is hosted by a different geological unit.
However, the company said the gold bearing vein systems and faults were a similar orientation to those found at Ternera.
Tesoro is nearing completion of planning and preparation for an infill and extensional drilling program at Ternera which is scheduled to begin next month.
As part of this, two drill rigs are being mobilised to begin the program as soon as possible.
Previous drilling at Ternera has uncovered 121.55m at 1.32g/t gold, including 4.7m at 10.69g/t gold; and 14m at 3.06g/t gold, including 1.7m at 19.72g/t gold.
Meanwhile, metallurgical test work on a 50kg sample of Ternera ore has achieved gold recoveries of up to 99%.
“The high gravity and cyanide leach recoveries achieved in this work support the potential for processing of material from Ternera using conventional gravity and cyanide-in-leach processes at a relatively coarse grind size,” Mr Reeves explained.
Further metallurgical test work is planned for the fourth quarter of 2020.
