A maiden reconnaissance exploration campaign has kicked off at Pioneer Lithium’s (ASX: PLN) wholly-owned LaGrande project in Canada’s James Bay region.

The work is being carried out in conjunction with lithium geological consultant IOS Services Géoscientifiques Inc and is expected to take three weeks to complete.

It will include geological mapping to identify pegmatite outcrops; structural interpretation; and the collection of rock chip samples for geochemical analysis.

The company aims to identify favourable host rocks and geotectonic settings, and test for the dispersion of LCT (lithium- caesium-tantalum) pegmatite-associated geochemistry and accessory minerals.

Established infrastructure

LaGrande is located near to established infrastructure such as sealed roads which run adjacent to all three claim blocks, allowing for easy access across the project.

The district’s exploration potential has been highlighted by the recent discovery of pegmatite targets in neighbouring claims held by Champion Electric, Winsome Resources (ASX: WR1) and Patriot Battery Metals (ASX: PMT).

Pioneer said results from the reconnaissance program would enhance its understanding of the LaGrande project areas and inform the planning of future exploration programs.

Root Lake site visit

Pioneer’s newly-appointed managing director Clinton Booth has made a site visit to the Root Lake lithium project in Ontario to meet with government officials and service contractors and finalise drilling, camp and staffing requirements.

He has been accompanied by chairman Robert Martin and consultants from Coast Mountain Geological.

The group visited a large pegmatite swarm discovered this week in the central corridor zone as well as the camp location and access roads.

Planning discussions have been held ahead of the upcoming winter drilling program at Root Lake.

Worthwhile experience

Mr Booth said the site visit was a worthwhile experience.

“It has been a tremendous opportunity to see first-hand the prospecting and mapping work performed at Root Lake and to discuss plans for the winter drilling campaign,” he said.

“Being able to see the high-quality road network which provides direct access to the site as well as the internal project access roads was invaluable… the experience provides great insights for us as we plan our future activities.”
