Oar Resources awaits soil sampling results expected to generate targets for a maiden drilling campaign.

Metals explorer Oar Resources (ASX: OAR) is getting closer to identifying priority drill targets for a maiden drilling phase at its Crown nickel-copper-platinum group elements (PGE) project in Western Australia.

The company kicked off its first phase of exploration at Crown in August and last month rock chip samples confirmed the presence of host rocks containing copper sulphides.

Oar then proceeded to a second exploration phase, collecting 310 soil samples from a Priority 1 target area to date and submitting these for portable x-ray fluorescence (P-XRF) multi-element analysis.

It is now awaiting results which are expected to generate geochemical targets for a first phase of drilling. The work will also assist in the identification of the underlying geology where there is no outcropping basement.

The initial soil sampling results are expected to be returned this week. Soil sampling and field mapping campaigns are continuing in the meantime.

Expanded footprint at Crown

Oar’s 100% owned Crown project is located 70km northeast of Perth in WA’s Julimar district. The Priority 1 target area lies in the eastern domain of the block where the company is now focusing its attention following recent ground-based exploration activities.

Other new high-priority target areas are expected to be opened up following the signing of an additional land access agreement. These new areas would be an immediate focus for the ongoing soil sampling and mapping programs.

Oar said it remains focused on expanding its land access footprint at Crown to progressively unlock new exploration areas.

Features similar to nearby Gonneville deposit

The Crown project lies just 8km west of the Gonneville deposit at Chalice Mining’s (ASX: CHN) Julimar nickel-copper-PGE project.

According to Oar, it contains numerous magnetic features interpreted to represent mafic volcanic rocks considered highly prospective for nickel-copper-PGE and gold mineralisation similar to that found at Gonneville.

Chalice made the Gonneville discovery last year, intersecting high-grade mineralisation containing nickel, copper, PGE, gold and cobalt.
