Norfolk Metals has applied for ground contiguous to its Orroroo uranium project in South Australia.

Newly-listed junior Norfolk Metals (ASX: NFL) has been successful in its application for an additional 379 square kilometres of acreage contiguous to its Orroroo uranium project in South Australia.

The company has been informed by the state’s Department of Energy and Mining that the application had progressed to the assessment stage, after which an exploration licence for the two parcels of acreage to the north and south at Orroroo should be granted.

A new exploration licence will expand Norfolk’s landholding in the Walloway Basin in the southern Flinders Ranges by approximately 135%.

ASX debut

The application news follows a busy start to the year for Norfolk.

In March, the company made its ASX debut after raising $5.5 million via the issue of 27.5 million shares at $0.20 each.

In addition to Orroroo, it is exploring for gold at Roger River in Tasmania’s northwest, which comprises one granted exploration licence and one under application.

Gravity survey results from Roger River have highlighted four distinct anomalies in correlation with splays of the Roger River Fault (which was previously interpreted via regional airborne magnetics) as well as low-level soil geochemistry anomalies.

The company commissioned an aeromagnetic drone survey to provide better understanding of the interpreted splays which support the theory of potential epithermal-style gold occurrences.

Norfolk has contracted a drilling company for the Roger River exploration program and completed an additional site visit to engage stakeholders and assess access to the gravity anomaly areas.

Orroroo site visit

During the March quarter, Norfolk also made a site visit to Orroroo and engaged with parties regarding native title and stakeholder engagement for access to the project ground.

Norfolk has said it “remains fully committed” to exploring the early-stage project which is prospective for roll front uranium.

The Orroroo project is located approximately 274km northwest of Adelaide within the Walloway Basin, which is an elongate tertiary basin approximately 50km long and up to 15km wide.

The basin consists of tertiary and quaternary sediments unconformably underlain by Adelaidian basement.
