Nimy Resources intersects 438m nickel-copper zone at Godley target
Recently-listed Nimy Resources (ASX: NIM) has hit a 438-metre nickel-copper sulphide zone during drilling of a second hole at the Godley prospect, within its Mons nickel project in Western Australia.
The thick zone of ultramafic and mafic rocks containing semi massive sulphides was identified using portable x-ray fluorescence (pXRF) and exceeds the 275m zone of mineralised nickel and copper sulphides intersected by the first diamond drill hole at Godley last month.
According to the explorer, both holes hit intervals of nickel sulphide (pentlandite), copper sulphide (chalcopyrite) along with pyrite and pyrrhotite although the second hole also intersected native copper at 51.67m.
Samples have been despatched to a laboratory in Perth with assays pending on both holes.
Nimy said additional geochemical and petrography test work would be competed on selected sections of the core to determine the mineralogy and mineralisation types in each of the discrete anomalous zones with higher nickel and copper grades.
Ongoing work
The two holes represent the first deep drilling at the Mons project with the previous reverse circulation drilling campaign late last year drilling to a maximum depth of 220m.
Nimy chairman Simon Lill said downhole electromagnetic (DHEM) surveying will now be prioritised to help the company define drill targets at Godley. Moving loop electromagnetic (MLEM) will also be completed over the prospect.
“At the same time, drilling is underway at the Dease target 7km to the north, where we recently discovered a nickel-bearing gossan at surface,” he added.
The gossan within the 3.5 square kilometre Dease target returned a peak pXRF reading of 0.96% nickel as well as other anomalous values of nickel, copper and cobalt.
As information is gathered from drilling and surveys it will be combined with historical data to update the exploration model and targets for Mons.
Nimy’s flagship Mons project covers 12 tenements over a 1,761sq km area within the Karroun Hill nickel district, about 140km north of the WA town of Southern Cross.
