Navarre Minerals beefs up geological team with another veteran appointed
Harry Horvath has been appointed as senior project geologist to drive the expanded exploration program at Navarre’s Victorian gold prospects.
Thirty-year veteran geologist Harry Horvath has joined Navarre Minerals (ASX: NML) as senior project geologist as the company works to reveal the secrets of the Stawell gold corridor in Victoria.
Mr Horvath’s appointment comes just two months after the company added Sarah Cochrane as senior exploration geologist to oversee the Irvine and Jubilee projects in Victoria.
The Stawell Corridor is an extension of a corridor of rocks that hosted the historical 5-million-ounce Stawell and 1Moz Ararat goldfields.
Mr Horvath has more than 30 years of experience, including in Victorian gold and has been involved in many mineral discoveries, the company said.
Geologist experience in early-stage mineral discovery
In addition, Navarre said Mr Horvath has particular expertise in early-stage mineral discovery and project generation.
He holds a masters’ degree in mineral economics from Curtin University, a science degree with geology as a major from La Trobe University and an honours degree in geology from the University of Tasmania.
Based in Stawell and reporting to Navarre exploration manager Shane Mele, Mr Horvath will lead the company’s regional exploration program and associated activities.
His 30-plus years in the field were spent on the Victorian and Western Australian goldfields, including at Ballarat and on ground in Victoria held by Stavely Minerals (ASX: SVY).
In a previous 10-year stint with WA exploration services firm Newexco, he worked mainly on project areas controlled by Kairos Minerals (ASX: KAI) and Western Areas (ASX: WSA).
In August, Ms Cochrane joined the team, having previously worked for eight years at the Ballarat gold mine, owned by Singapore-listed LionGold.
She has also worked as a project geologist on several Victorian projects and as a geologist in the Pilbara.
Navarre to burnish “ore-finder” reputation
Navarre managing director Ian Holland said Mr Horvath’s appointment will enhance the company’s reputation as an “ore finder” in Victoria’s “Golden Triangle”, an area which historically has produced 80Moz of the metal — “and is thought to be hiding more”.
“With Harry’s appointment, we now have several dedicated exploration teams with local knowledge and expertise in Victorian gold to expedite our mineral exploration plans,” Mr Holland added.
He said that as well as advancing aggressively the regional exploration programs, Navarre remains “resolutely” focused on delivering a maiden mineral resource at its flagship Irvine project.
