Mt Malcolm Mines (ASX: M2M) has obtained multiple high-grade assay returns including 111 grams per tonne and 65.66g/t gold from new grade control drilling at its Golden Crown prospect in Western Australia.

“The grade control drilling results have significantly boosted our confidence in the upcoming bulk sampling and the overall mineralisation at Golden Crown,” managing director Trevor Dixon said.

“This drilling campaign has not only confirmed high-grade mineralisation within the sampling area but also provided valuable insights into grade distribution, results crucial for delineating the bulk sampling grade and assisting in planning for future drilling.”

Rich mining history

Golden Crown – a significant gold mining location that produced 1,720 ounces between 1899 and 1904 – has become the company’s focal point for resource estimation and project development following an assessment of its rich mining history and the success of recent drilling activity.

To test that historical potential, Mt Malcolm undertook a 522-metre reverse circulation (RC) drilling program there in February this year that delineated a well-defined mineralised area, providing a solid foundation for robust maiden mineral resource estimates.

Bulk sampling

A mineralised corridor measuring 50m in length and 15m in width was identified through the February drilling as the target for the bulk sampling program.

As part of its assessment of the area, Mt Malcolm completed the RC drilling campaign at Golden Crown last month, with a focus on delineating suitable bulk sampling options.

To prepare for the bulk sampling program, the company designated 18 shallow grade control drill holes to be placed along three designated lines spaced 5m apart.

Results from the program have returned significant high-grade gold mineralisation consistent with or better than those from the February results.

Gold recovery promise

The recent drilling success adds to Mt Malcolm’s Golden Crown confidence after the company obtained outstanding initial results from a sample processing study last month.

The study assessed gold recoveries over multiple grades and the economic potential of the project by processing seven batches of samples from 62 mineralised intercepts from the February drilling program using wet gravity separation at a nearby third-party plant.

Results included an average gravity gold recovery of 63.4%, with the processing study highlighting a strong correlation between higher average grades of gold and improved gold recovery.
