Monger Gold (ASX: MMG) is pushing ahead with plans to become a major lithium supplier to North America’s battery metals industry with an option over the Brisk lithium deposit in the Canadian province of Quebec.

Once it exercises the option for 100% ownership, it will be rubbing shoulders in the James Bay lithium district with several other lithium hopefuls including Allkem Limited (ASX: AKE), Sayona Mining (ASX: SYA), and Winsome Resource (ASX: WR1) as well as with Toronto Venture exchange listed players.

Monger is also at present advancing its Scotty lithium project in Nevada.

The Brisk project includes six prospects covering a total 98.5sq km and is host to several known pegmatite outcrops. It is a hard rock lithium project while Scotty is a brine and clay proposition

Maiden field program to test lithium potential

Brisk is located 15km west of Winsome’s Cancet project.

Monger says the proposed project is located close to the La Grande complex, one of the world’s largest hydroelectric developments, providing carbon-free energy for future mine development.

The option agreement with the private vendor allows 45 days during which Monger plans to conduct a maiden field program, aimed at testing and confirming several targets in terms of contained lithium.

Exploration will be managed by Edmonton, Alberta-based Dahrouge Geological Consulting which has a track record of involvement in discoveries of lithium, rare earths, uranium and specialty metals.

Monger chief executive officer Adam Ritchie said the company is signalling its intention to move into the “fertile grounds” of the James Bay lithium district and do it in partnership with highly respected consultants.

“Dahrouge’s insights behind the Brisk lithium project must not be underestimated,” he added.

Mr Ritchie said James Bay is emerging as the hard rock capital of North America.

With both Brisk and Scotty, “Monger is in a prime position to take advantage of legislation recently passed by the US Congress enforcing a minimum level of locally sourced raw materials within the North American battery supply chain”.

Earlier this month, Monger announced it had begun soil sampling at Scotty in Nevada.

Its US project is located 70km from Albemarle Corporation’s Clayton Valley lithium mine — the only producing lithium mine in the US — and 330km from Tesla’s Gigafactory.
