Mechanical installation works start at Group 6 Metals’ Dolphin tungsten mine
Group 6 Metals’ key contractors have now mobilised to King Island to develop the Dolphin tungsten mine.
Emerging producer Group 6 Metals (ASX: G6M) has provided an update on the latest construction activities at its Dolphin tungsten mine development on King Island off Tasmania.
The company today revealed key contractor Gekko Systems has commenced mechanical installations works for the crushing circuit following the completion of the circuit’s civil concrete works.
Installation works on the Single Persons Quarts (SPQ) West accommodation building is also nearing completion with occupation expected later this month.
In addition, deliveries of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) equipment and materials are ramping up in anticipation of process plant installation works, and vegetation is being cleared in preparation for construction of the tailing storage facility walls.
Group 6 Metals chief executive officer Keith McKnight said key contractors including Gekko Systems, Frontline Electrical and JMK Construction Group have now mobilised to site and are working in accordance with the project schedule.
“Significant progress has been made on the process plant construction with the completion of the civil works for the crushing circuit, allowing Gekko Systems to commence mechanical installation works.”
“Frontline have been working on the installation of the electrical interface equipment and distribution cables to connect power from the King Island grid for the construction phase of the project,” he added.
In last month’s update, Group 6 Metals confirmed it remained on schedule to target first tungsten concentrate from the Dolphin mine in the March quarter of next year (Q1 2023).
Increased COVID-19 cases
Mr McKnight noted the unfortunate increased incidence of COVID-19 infections on King Island including several cases amongst staff.
“We have implemented strict containment procedures on site in accordance with the company’s COVID-19 management plan and consultation with the Tasmanian Department of Health. We will continue to monitor the situation,” he said.
