Matador Mining expands Window Glass Hill gold footprint at Cape Ray
Matador Mining has announced new high-grade gold hits outside of its existing mineral resource in Newfoundland, Canada.
Canada-focused explorer Matador Mining (ASX: MZZ) has announced high-grade gold intercepts that increase the mineralised footprint at its Cape Ray gold project in Newfoundland.
The company today reported new diamond drilling results from a new granite margin target in the Window Glass Hill Granite region with the best intersection coming in at 19 metres at 4.2 grams per tonne gold from 9m, including 1m at 30.6g/t.
This intercept came from one of 11 holes drilled into this new granite margin target, which lies outside the existing Window Glass Hill mineral resource.
Other drilling highlights include: 6m at 1g/t gold from 34m including 1m at 4.4g/t; 4m at 1.9g/t gold from 114m including 1m at 6.3g/t; and 7m at 1.1g/t from 47m including 1m at 5.6g/t.
All 11 holes are mineralised, thus growing the Window Glass Hill Granite gold mineralisation footprint and Matador said it highlights the potential for additional high-grade gold domains across the granite body.
Better than previous significant intercepts
Matador executive chairman Ian Murray said 19m at 4.2g/t gold is a better gold intercept than any previously reported ‘significant intercepts’ within the Window Glass Hill mineral resource.
“What makes this intercept even more exciting is the proximity of the high-grade mineralisation to surface, and that it represents the successful definition of a new target type within the Window Glass Hill Granite.”
He said the structural position of the new granite margin target is similar to that of Marathon Gold’s Valentine Lake deposits and the granite-hosted portions of Red 5’s King of the Hills mine in Western Australia.
“I am very excited by the untested potential of the remaining 6-kilometre strike length of the Window Glass Hill Granite contact,” Mr Murray added.
“This, combined with our ongoing targeting success delivering high-grade mineralisation near surface, augers well for the continued growth of the Window Glass Hill Granite mineralisation footprint.”
Assays are pending for a further 13 diamond drill holes (1,548m) completed across the Window Glass Hill Granite. Mr Murray said the company anticipates news of the assay results to flow regularly for the remainder of the year and into 2022.
Ongoing drilling at Cape Ray
Matador’s current exploration program across the Cape Ray gold project includes more than 45,000m of diamond drilling.
Drilling is ongoing with diamond rigs currently at the Big Pond and Benton greenfield targets.
Earlier this month, Matador reported strong results from power auger drilling at Big Pond including intercepts grading up to 55.4g/t gold.
