Marvel Gold discovers new gold target at Tabakorole project
Marvel Gold (ASX: MVL) has discovered a new gold target at its Tabakorole project in southeast Mali, during reconnaissance aircore and auger drilling.
Aircore drilling about 6km southeast of the main Tabakorole deposit has confirmed anomalous gold over 600m of strike at Target H.
Soil sampling in 2021 identified three zones of anomalous gold along trend from the Tabakorole deposit – Target H, Target I and Target J.
Drilling at Target H has now returned peak values of 0.55 grams per tonne gold and 0.58g/t gold, with mineralisation remaining open to the southeast.
Assays from Target I and Target J are pending along with those from additional aircore lines drilled along strike from all three prospects.
Marvel is now planning follow up drilling to determine the extent of Target H.
Marvel managing director Chris van Wijk said the company was “very encouraged” by the anomalies evident at Tabakorole to-date.
He said Marvel was systematically testing these anomalies using auger or aircore drilling, adding he was “particularly pleased” by the results from Target H.
“We are looking forward to following up on these exciting results as the season progresses.”
Lone Wolf
Aircore drilling is underway at the Lone Wolf prospect, which is about 2.7km southeast of Tabakorole and within the same trends as Target H, Target I and Target J.
Mr Wijk said this program was following up on mineralisation that was intercepted previously and returned 4m at 1.3 grams per tonne gold and 4m at 2.7g/t gold.
A solitary reverse circulation hole had been drilled into Lone Wolf in 2005 and uncovered 12m at 1.2g/t gold from surface.
Marvel noted this had never been followed up.
At Lone Wolf, the company plans to complete four extra aircore lines covering 700m of strike.
Marvel added that artisanal miners had been active at Lone Wolf since 2021 – providing supporting evidence of its prospectivity.
Other gold trends
Anomalous gold has also been identified at three other trends within Tabakorole – Asgard, Wakanda and Sola.
Auger and aircore drilling have been conducted across these trends and returned a peak value of 9.1g/t gold at Asgard, and 1.9g/t gold and 0.6g/t gold at Wakanda and Sola.
Advancing Tabakorole
Last month, Marvel upped its interest in Tabakorole from 51% to 70%.
The project has 1.025 million ounces of contained gold in JORC resources.
Multi-element assays are pending for all auger and aircore holes drilled in the latest campaign. Marvel plans to wait until these are all at hand to evaluate the full geochemical datasets and determine targets for follow-up work.
The company is also anticipating results imminently from soil sampling programs at Yanfolila and Kolondieba targets.
