Lunnon Metals (ASX: LM8) has received more high-grade nickel results from drilling at its Kambalda project, with latest assays coming from N75C, a target within the old Foster mine.

The company says the assays confirmed the historic workings still host unmined nickel.

Notable results were 7.7m at 2.92% nickel from 315.2m down hole.

The hole was drilled adjacent to a historical hole at N75C that intercepted 16.52m at 3.05% nickel. It is also next to the existing mineralisation making up the JORC mineral resource of 16,600t of nickel grading 2.4%.

“Now that these assay results are back, we can work to finalise the mineral resource estimate for this surface,” Lunnon managing director Ed Ainscough said.

“Being right next door to the existing 16,600t nickel hosted at the 85H surface, it will offer additional nickel to our future plans in the area of the Foster mine and hopefully be the start of many more additions form the historic drill core program, which aims to incrementally grow the Foster mineral resource over the course of 2022,” he added.

Kambalda nickel project

Today’s positive drill results at the old Foster mine follow earlier assays from the nearby Warren shoot within the project.

At Warren, drilling returned 8.72m at 3.54% nickel from 353.05m, including 2.33m at 4.41% nickel from 359.44m.

The Kambalda project covers 23 square kilometres and comprises 19 contiguous mining leases.

This project is part of the Kambalda nickel district that extends more than 70km south of the township of the same name in Western Australia.

Global resources for the project total 1.238Mt at 3.2% nickel for 39,000t of contained metal.

Precious metals also present

As well as nickel, gold, palladium and platinum have also been identified at the project.

Drilling at the Foster Gap target unearthed 7.84m at 1.46 grams per tonne gold from 166m, 0.2m at 26.87g/t gold and 1.5m at 2.8g/t gold.

At the Warren shoot, drilling uncovered 8.72m at 0.64g/t platinum and 1.43g/t palladium.
