More high-grade nickel has been unearthed at Lunnon Metals’ (ASX: LM8) Warren channel, within its Kambalda nickel project in Western Australia.

Lunnon says latest assays continue to support the Warren channel’s prospectivity, with highlight results of 4.25m at 6.02% nickel, 0.63% copper, 0.11% cobalt, 1.31 grams per tonne palladium and 0.72g/t platinum from 370.15m.

Another hole intercepted 0.55m at 8.18% nickel, 0.55% copper, 0.15% cobalt, 2.54g/t palladium and 0.84g/t platinum from 367.25m; and 0.15m at 8.57% nickel from 375.1m.

These assays are from Lunnon’s drilling into a down hole transient electromagnetic (DHTEM) conductive plate.

“The program to test this DHTEM target at Warren has been a great success and the diamond holes and results themselves have generated further targets nearby,” Lunnon managing director Ed Ainscough said.

“The outcomes illustrate one of the best characteristics of these famous Kambalda nickel channels – the ability to keep on delivering great results and new targets to test, time after time,” he added.

Lunnon’s strategy at Warren is to firm up substantially more nickel than the current resource of 6,400 tonnes of contained metal.

Additional drilling is underway to target mineralisation up and down dip to determine its extent. Assays are pending from a hole (005) that intersected visible nickel sulphides.

Lunnon is also planning further holes between the DHTEM plate and the existing 6,400t mineral resource.

Kambalda nickel project

Warren is adjacent to the Foster channel, which was mined up till 1994 and produced 61,000t of nickel metal.

The Foster channel has 42,100t of contained nickel resources. This estimate includes the maiden JORC resource for the N75C prospect that was announced last month of 412,700t at 2.3% for 9,500t.

Globally, the Kambalda nickel project has resources of 1.65Mt grading 2.9% nickel for 48,500t.

The project comprises 19 contiguous mining leases and is 19km south of the Kambalda East township and only 20km from BHP’s (ASX: BHP) Nickel West concentrator.
