Lithium Universe (ASX: LU7) has appointed minerals executive Victoria Vargas as a director of its Canadian subsidiary Lithium Universe (Holdings).

The appointment is expected to bolster the company’s operational experience in North America and strengthen its exposure to international capital markets.

Ms Vargas’ experience in environmental social and governance issues will also benefit the development of the Québec lithium processing hub, which Lithium Universe unveiled in September.

Capital markets experience

Ms Vargas brings to the company over 25 years of experience in the North American capital markets, with a focus on the Canadian mineral sector.

She began her career at Kinross Gold Corporation before joining Alamos Gold in 2004 where she played a pivotal role in enhancing investor exposure and facilitating Alamos’ transition from the TSX Venture Exchange to the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Prior to this, Ms Vargas worked for Québec-based company H2O Innovation, which provides best-in-class technologies and services for the water and wastewater treatment industries.

Community engagement

Ms Vargas has skills in sustainability and community engagement in an operational and governance context.

She has served on health, safety and corporate social responsibility committees for Mexico’s national mining chamber Cámara Minera de México (CAMIMEX) and the Mining Association of Canada.

Her expertise extends across international projects in multiple jurisdictions, with a focus on mineral projects in Québec and Ontario.

Current roles

Ms Vargas is currently president and founder of Strat-Advice Inc and acts as the chief financial officer of private company VMS Mining.

She also holds the role of vice president (investor relations) for gold producer Minera Alamos and is a capital markets advisor to TSX-listed Wallbridge Mining.

Ms Vargas earned a master of business administration degree in finance and has a bachelor of science degree in economics with honours.

Dream team

Lithium Universe non-executive chairman Iggy Tan welcomed the latest addition to his “dream team”.

“Victoria has extensive experience within the mining sector in Québec and Ontario, and she will be instrumental in advancing our strategy for the Quebec processing hub,” he said.

“We believe her profound understanding of Canadian mineral markets will play a key role in enhancing our relationships with all stakeholders… we are very fortunate to have Victoria join our dynamic team.”
