King River Copper (ASX: KRC) has announced the discovery of fine visible gold during its latest drilling campaign at the Mt Remarkable gold project in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia.

The resources explorer is currently conducting a reverse circulation (RC) drilling program on the Trudi Vein at the project, located about 200km south of the WA town of Kununurra. A total of 46 holes for 1600m have been completed to date.

According to the company, the first batch of assay results were received last Wednesday and returned multiple high-grade gold intercepts.

Then, a set of prioritised samples containing visible gold were sent to the laboratory with assays received on Saturday.

The best result from these prioritised samples was a 4m intersection grading at 113.29 grams per tonne of gold including 1m at 346g/t gold. Another highlight was a 3m intersection grading at 34.8g/t gold including 1m at 50.5g/t gold.

In addition, the first batch of assays confirmed multiple plunging high-grade shoots forming a core to the main Trudi mineralised zone, with best results including a 3m intersection grading at 22.31g/t gold including 1m at 65.9g/t gold.

According to King River, the fine visible gold mineralisation was found at the eastern end of the Trudi drilling grid in what appears to be a narrow, very high-grade shoot plunging to the east where historic drilling has been sparse.

The company is planning to drill four diamond holes this month to provide structural information on the current high-grade zones.

Drilling of the undrilled eastern extents of the Trudi vein is scheduled for later in the exploration program.

Assays are pending for the rest of the holes drilled to date, King River stated.

Recent exploration

Last year, the company conducted two RC drilling programs at Mt Remarkable, with one hole at the Trudi vein intersecting 11m grading at 27.9g/t gold, including 1m at 90.7g/t gold.

This recent discovery at the Trudi vein motivated King River to expand its exploration footprint around Mt Remarkable, announcing it had applied for three large exploration licences on the surrounding area in March.

According to King River, the initial results from the 2018 drilling program supports the company’s view that “there is very exciting potential for repeats of the high-grade shoots along the Trudi vein and at depth, and also within the numerous other vein systems at Mt Remarkable, which are significantly under-explored”.

Shares in King River were sitting 6.25% higher at A$0.085 by midday trade.
