WA1 Resources managing director Paul Savich says the anomaly represents a potential iron oxide-copper-gold exploration target.

Broad-space aircore drilling at the Murrin project in Western Australia has identified multiple anomalous gold zones for explorer Kin Mining (ASX: KIN).

Murrin makes up part of the company’s wider flagship 1.4 million ounce Cardinia gold project near Leonora.

The 8,740m aircore drilling program at Murrin, which lies just 15km south of the Murrin Murrin nickel-cobalt mine, returned several hits, including 4m at 0.95 grams per tonne gold from 20m, 4m at 1.52g/t gold from 12m and 16m at 0.63g/t gold from 32m.

This was the initial test drilling, with 400m spacing, of auger anomalies delineated last year.

Mineralisation had been detected up to 800m along strike from historic reverse circulation holes which had returned, among others, one assay of 24m at 2.26g/t from 64m.

Stage two plan under review

Kin is now assessing and reviewing its stage two plan which will use 200m line spacing over the anomalous areas.

Murrin project leases are adjacent to the historic Murrin Murrin gold mining centre which was operated from the late 1890s with numerous small shafts and, by 1954, had produced 97,199oz gold at an average of 22.1g/t.

A further 31,177oz from lower grade material was produced by open pit mining between 1988 and 1994.

Kin says outcrop is “reasonably good” south of Mt Nangeroo to the southwest of the tenement. Elsewhere extensive areas are under cover of gravels and soils.

Several shallow old gold workings are contained within the tenements.

Despite the project’s proximity to numerous abandoned mines and historical centres, the tenements have not previously been subject to systematic modern-day exploration.

Further drilling at Rangoon and Helens East

Meanwhile, Kin has begun a program of follow-up reverse circulation and diamond drilling at its Rangoon and Helens East prospects where previously reported intersections returned 32m at 2.98g/t from 129m, including 12m at 5.62g/t and 12m at 2.25g/t.

Another hole returned 15m at 3.03g/t from 162m.

Rangoon and Helens East are within the Cardinia project’s Eastern Corridor.
