A phase four follow-up program of reverse circulation and diamond drilling at key targets within Kin Mining’s (ASX: KIN) Cardinia gold project in Western Australia is enhancing the company’s geological understanding of the underexplored Eastern Corridor area.

The program comprises 63 holes for a total of 9,700m and has been designed to extend the project’s mineral resource along strike to the north and at depth to 200m below surface.

Infill drilling at the southern high-grade shoot will also aim to upgrade the resource category.

High-grade mineralisation

Results to date have confirmed the presence of high-grade mineralisation at depth as well as broad intersections of mineralisation with narrower high-grade sections.

Mineralisation along the Cardinia Hill structure has been extended to a 800m strike length with a best intercept to date of 2m at 4.17 grams per tonne gold.

Other results have been 7.8m at 2.9g/t gold from 267.2m, including 4.8m at 4.16g/t from 267.2m; and 3m at 5.87g/t gold from 59m.

The Helens South target has been identified as potentially a linking structure between the larger Fiona East and Cardinia Hill north-south faults.

Drilling returned a best intercept of 2m at 5.96g/t gold from 35m, while mapping at the Rangoon and Fiona deposits has indicated the Cardinia Hill porphyry extends along strike to the north.

Fiona has also been modelled as a linking structure between the Fiona and Fiona East north-south faults.

Eastern Corridor exploration

Exploration at the Cardinia project’s Eastern Corridor to date has focused on extending the depth of known mineralisation and investigating targets identified from detailed magnetics and gravity surveys conducted over the past two years.

The targets are located between 500m and 4.5km of the project and the geophysical work revealed porphyry intrusions adjacent to sheared mafic volcanic and felsic volcanic contacts as a primary control of high-grade gold mineralisation.

The gravity survey enabled detailed mapping of the positions of interpreted shear zones, geological contacts and buried porphyry intrusions, resulting in the generation of the new targets in addition to deeper ones associated with Cardinia Hill.

The phase four program has provided an initial assessment of the mineralisation style and gold grade at each of the new targets, and will assist with prioritising them for further exploration aimed at growing the resource base.

Current mineral resources within the Eastern Corridor total 3.9Mt at 1.59g/t gold for 194,000 ounces across the Helens, Rangoon, Fiona and Cardinia Hill deposits.
