Provaris Energy (ASX: PV1) expects to release several key updates next month for its vertically integrated Tiwi H2 green hydrogen project in the Northern Territory, while work continues gaining traction in Europe, including identifying a preferred site in the Nordic region.

At Tiwi H2, the company is planning to build a solar precinct to power the production of up to 100,000 tonnes per annum of green hydrogen for export across the Asia Pacific.

Hydrogen will be shipped via Provaris’ compressed green hydrogen shipping carriers that are under development.

Provaris says key workstreams are continuing at Tiwi H2, with the company remaining on track to finalise the solar farm design, generation capacity and updated cost estimates next month.

Also expected next month are the terms of reference for Tiwi H2’s environmental impact statement (EIS) assessment.

The full EIS for Tiwi H2 will be submitted early in the final quarter of 2023.

Other important work streams underway include the submission of draft land agreements for Tiwi Land Council and Munupi landowner review, and a land access agreement for the project’s proposed solar monitoring equipment, which is expected for mid-2023.

Provaris managing director Martin Carolan said the company was “pleased” with the progress at Tiwi H2, and he looked forward to important milestones being met in the coming month.

Europe hydrogen strategy

Meanwhile, over in Europe, Provaris’ hydrogen strategy is gaining traction.

Europe is a key market for Provaris’ technology with a target of 10 million tonne per annum of green hydrogen to be imported by 2023 under the RePowerEu plan that was announced last year.

Mr Carolan said there was increasing awareness and interaction from hydrogen developers in the region that are seeking to understand the benefits of Provaris’ compressed hydrogen supply chain technology.

“We are particularly thrilled to keep building a strong pipeline in that region with Norway providing a platform for multiple commercialisation opportunities,” he added.

Provaris is undertaking a pre-feasibility study with Norwegian Hydrogen to fast-track project definition for a preferred site in the Nordic region.

The objective of this is to determine a site for Provaris’ first project that can export green hydrogen to Europe in 2027.

Provaris noted Norwegian and German governments recently declared that they were aligned with the RePowerEu plan and were working towards a full-scale hydrogen value chain between the nations.
