A maiden reverse circulation (RC) drilling program has been completed at Kalamazoo Resources’ (ASX: KZR) Mallina West gold project and returned a highlight 1m interval grading 10.35 grams per tonne gold.

Formerly called the Sisters project, Mallina West is located in Western Australia’s Kimberley and directly along strike of De Grey Mining’s (ASX: DEG) ever-growing Hemi discovery, which currently contains 10 million ounces in gold resources.

The maiden drilling program at Mallina West comprised 23 holes for 2,434m and the 1m interval was encountered 99m down hole and ended in mineralisation.

Kalamazoo executive director Paul Adams said the maiden RC had to be cut short due to unseasonal rainfall and flooding, but the 1m interval that ended in mineralisation was “intriguing” and “encouraging”.

“We know that we are in the right neighbourhood with De Grey’s 10Moz Hemi discovery to the north-east and we are looking forward to getting back on the ground in the upcoming field season,” he added.

Mallina West

Mallina is 50km from De Grey’s Hemi deposit and comprises five exploration licences covering 474 square kilometres of ground.

Kalamazoo is searching for “Hemi-style” intrusion hosted gold at the project.

The maiden 23-hole RC program at Mallina West was completed at the end of May, with core samples initially evaluated as 4m composite assays.

Anomalous gold results were resampled and re-evaluated at 1m intervals, which identified the 1m at 10.35g/t gold assay, which was returned from the Wattle Plains prospect.

Kalamazoo considers the results “highly encouraging” due to the reconnaissance nature of the drilling program and will investigate further.

In readiness for the upcoming 2023 campaign, Kalamazoo will undertake a technical review of the existing project-wide aeromagnetic data, as well as ongoing geological interpretation and modelling.

Kalamazoo will also design ground and airborne geophysical surveys as well as field and reconnaissance mapping campaigns.

These activities will feed into target planning for the next round of drilling.
