Kalamazoo Resources (ASX: KZR) has expanded its lithium ground in the east Pilbara with the acquisition of the Pear Creek project.

According to Kalamazoo, Peak Creek covers 147 square kilometres and is adjacent to its existing DOM’s Hill lithium project and is close to Pilbara Minerals’ (ASX: PLS) world renowned Pilgangoora lithium operation and the Albemarle and Mineral Resources’ (ASX: MIN) Wodgina hard rock lithium joint venture.

Kalamazoo also owns the Marble Bar lithium tenements, which are located on the margin of the Moolyella tin and tantalum field.

The Pear Creek acquisition almost doubles Kalamazoo’s east Pilbara lithium ground to 348sq km. Pear Creek hosts 25km of strike covering the Archean granite-greenstone contact zone, otherwise knows as the Goldilocks Zone, which is prospective for lithium-caesium-tantalum mineralisation.

Kalamazoo chairman and chief executive officer Luke Reinehr noted Pear Creek was familiar to the company, after it explored the ground for gold in 2013.

“Of course, at that time, there was little interest in lithium exploration, so it was not on our radar,” he explained.

“Our teams’ excellent soil geochemistry surveys and pegmatite dyke mapping over the last few months at the DOM’s Hill and Marble Bar lithium projects, provides us with confidence in exploring for lithium-caesium-tantalum pegmatite mineralisation in the immediate area – thus leading us back to Pear Creek.”

Mr Reinehr said adding Pear Creek in Kalamazoo’s lithium portfolio was part of its strategy to discover long-life and large-scale lithium deposits to complement gold exploration in the region.

DOM’s Hill and Marble Bar

Over at DOM’s Hill and Marble Bar, Kalamazoo says it is making “excellent progress” with drilling planned to begin early next year.

A project-wide geochemical program was recently completed at DOM’s Hill, which collected 4,900 soil samples for analysis.

The field work is assisting Kalamazoo in firming up drill targets with a 5,000m reverse circulation program planned for the project early next year.

At Marble Bar, the company is collecting about 3,700 soil samples with two crews on site. The program is expected to be completed this month.

Drilling at Marble Bar is scheduled to begin once the program at DOM’s Hill winds up.
