Kalamazoo Resources is awaiting assays from drilling at Ashburton and Castlemaine.

Junior explorer Kalamazoo Resources (ASX: KZR) is gearing up to begin drilling at The Sisters gold projects where it has firmed up five high priority targets along the same shear that hosts De Grey Mining’s (ASX: DEG) Hemi discovery in Western Australia’s Pilbara.

Once final relevant approvals have been received, Kalamazoo will complete 5,700m of drilling, including about 4,900m of reverse circulation drilling and 800m with a diamond rig.

Kalamazoo has identified five priority targets after undertaking soil sampling, an airborne magnetics survey, hyperspectral imagery analysis, satellite photography and ground traverses.

The initial zones to be drilled are Wattle Plains and Satirist where it is hoping to make a similar discovery to Hemi.

Kalamazoo acquired The Sisters and two other gold projects in the Pilbara in October last year.

Assays pending from Ashburton

Over at the Ashburton gold project, which Kalamazoo acquired from Northern Star Resources (ASX: NST) last year, a maiden drilling program was completed in late December.

The program comprised 5,718m and prioritised Waugh and Connie’s Find prospects on the northern side of the Diligence Dome. On the dome’s southern side, Peake and Peake West were drilled.

Kalamazoo made the prospects high priority targets because of their existing resources which comprise 3.7 million tonnes at 3.4 grams per tonne gold for 399,000 ounces (Peake) and 590,000t at 3.6g/t gold for 68,000oz (Waugh).

All-up Ashburton has an oxide and sulphide gold resource of 1.65Moz.

Assays from the maiden program are pending. The recently completed program was the first drilling undertaken at Ashburton since 2013.

Victorian gold hunt

As well as exploring for gold in the Pilbara, Kalamazoo is exploring its Castlemaine project in Victoria.

At the end of last month, Kalamazoo completed drilling at the project where it targeted the Lightning prospect which is in proximity to the historic Wattle Gully mine which produced 411,000oz gold at an average grade of 11.1g/t.

Visual observations from drilling confirmed a Wattle Gully style structure at the project.

Kalamazoo is also exploring South Muckleford and Tarnagulla gold projects in Victoria.
