Kalamazoo Resources (ASX: KZR) is gearing up to begin drilling its The Sisters gold project which is located on the same shear that hosts De Grey Mining’s (ASX: DEG) renowned Hemi discovery in Western Australia’s Pilbara.
Once final approvals have been secured, Kalamazoo will undertake 4,900m of reverse circulation drilling at the project along with 800m of diamond drilling.
Previous soil sampling, airborne magnetics surveying, hyperspectral imagery analysis, satellite photography and ground traverses have led to Kalamazoo identifying five high priority drill targets.
The first targets to be drilled are Wattle Plains and Satirist. The remaining three contain anomalies suggesting the presence of mineralisation and are located along prospective structures and will be potentially tested in a future drilling program.
“We have now finalised our extensive targeting program for The Sisters gold project, which has identified a number of highly prospective targets,” Kalamazoo director Paul Adams said.
“As soon as we receive the final approvals, we will look to start our maiden drilling campaign at The Sisters, which we anticipate will follow our current Ashburton gold project drilling program, scheduled for completion in mid-December.”
He added that although the company had “highly rated” The Sisters project, the recent results De Grey has been generating at Hemi, which is along strike, have reinforced the asset’s potential.
“We have been systematically increasing our knowledge of the area and utilising innovative technologies to assist in identifying potential drill targets.”
“The recently completed geochemical soil sampling and aerial surveys have been extremely useful in prioritising drill targets in our search for a gold discovery at The Sisters,” Mr Adams said.
Hemi gold discovery
Since De Grey first reported the Hemi gold discovery less than 12 months ago, many explorers have become active on nearby ground.
De Grey has continued to grow its discovery returning numerous broad and high grade gold intercepts across multiple zones.
Kalamazoo is hoping to make a similar or better find at The Sisters which lies on the same Wohler Shear as Hemi and its wider Mallina gold project.
At The Sisters, Kalamazoo has firmed up 14km of strike across the shear for investigation.
