Kairos Minerals has unearthed 1.8g/t and 12.9g/t gold in rock chips at Skywell.

Kairos Minerals (ASX: KAI) shores up Hemi-style potential after discovering high-grade gold at its Skywell project in Western Australia’s Kimberley with rock chips assaying up to 12.9 grams per tonne gold.

The company collected rock chip samples along 130m of outcropping veins with five out of 23 samples assaying between 1.8g/t and 12.9g/t gold.

“Our 2020 exploration field season is off to a great start, with our very first program of vehicle and helicopter-supported mapping and sampling at Skywell delivering some impressive gold grades from rock chips,” Kairos executive chairman Terry Topping said.

“The results are particularly significant given they were generated from reconnaissance rock chip sampling targeting a 130m long zone of outcropping quartz veins.”

He added the presence of gold grades at these levels has “defined a significant high-grade gold anomaly” for follow up exploration.

“Gold can often occur in quartz vein on the margins of the sort of big intrusive features we are targeting for Hemi-style discoveries, so this increases our confidence in the scale and potential of the opportunity here,” Mr Topping explained.

Advancing Skywell

At Skywell, Kairos is targeting similar gold mineralisation to that found at De Grey Mining’s (ASX: DEG) major Hemi discovery, which is about 60km along strike to the north-east.

Once a soil sampling program using CSIRO’s Ultrafine methods is completed at the company’s Kangan project, Kairos said it will move back to Skywell to undertake both soil sampling and a follow up rock chip program.

Pilbara gold project

An extensive airborne magnetic and radiometric survey has been completed across Kairos’ entire Pilbara gold project, which includes Skywell. The survey comprised 2,146 lines for 13,920m, with data processing of the results now being carried out.

The Pilbara gold project encompasses 1,547 square kilometres of tenements, with the central hub located about 100km south of Port Hedland.

Global resources across the project current stand at 20.93Mt at 1.3g/t gold for 873,000oz.

In addition to advancing Skywell, near-term activities will involve developing track access to the Mt York and Fuego targets, with Kairos to begin a drilling campaign across the assets once it has completed planning the program.
