Kairos Minerals defines lithium anomaly at Roe Hills gold-cobalt-nickel project

Diversified explorer Kairos Minerals (ASX: KAI) has defined an anomaly of extensive lithium and pathfinder elements at its wholly-owned Roe Hills gold-cobalt-nickel project, east of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.

The coherent 2.7 kilometre-long structure was identified during a review of a soil sampling program from 2020 which was initially designed to target gold and base metal mineralisation.

It is located 10km south of the Manna lithium prospect owned by Global Lithium Resources (ASX: GL1) and Breaker Resources (ASX: BRB) and is similar to Manna in terms of its orientation, interpreted geology and geochemistry.

Priority drill target

Executive chairman Terry Topping said the discovery represents a priority drill target for the company.

“This is an exciting new exploration opportunity which complements the significant lithium targets we have defined recently within our Pilbara exploration portfolio,” he said.

“Our recent site visit has shown the area is suitable for aircore and potential follow-up reverse circulation drilling… we have initiated an extensive field program with additional soil sampling and mapping and we will prioritise drilling once we secure a suitable rig.”

Soil sampling results

In 2020, Kairos conducted a soil sampling program in the northern part of Roe Hills to target regional structures associated with gold mineralisation.

A total of 1,311 samples were sent to Intertek Laboratory in Perth for gold and multi-element analysis.

The results generated a gold target which the company explored last year with six reverse circulation drill holes for 901m.

Assays returned a best gold intercept of 4 metres at 1.63 grams per tonne from 48m and a sulphide zone of 20m at 0.42% zinc from 96m, which it said could indicate the presence of volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) mineralisation.

A recent review of the multi-element geochemistry highlighted a coherent lithium and associated pathfinder elements anomalous corridor.

The area returned elevated values for lithium, rubidium, beryllium, tin, caesium and tungsten.

The interpreted geology is believed to be favourable for lithium-caesium-tantalum (LCT) pegmatites and similar to the interpreted geology of the Manna prospect.
