James Bay Minerals (ASX: JBY) has identified multiple outcropping pegmatite dykes at the highly-prospective Aqua prospect within its La Grande project in Canada.
Five large dykes are believed to be up to 500 metres in length and positioned along the project’s mid-west boundary.
The company said they appear to be a continuation of a broad pegmatite field outlined earlier this week by FIN Resources (ASX: FIN) at its Cancet West project.
FIN identified abundant spodumene crystals within a broad pegmatite outcrop at Cancet, which is located less than 250m from the Aqua property boundary.
Maiden program
The Aqua dykes were discovered during recent helicopter surveys which formed a part of James Bay’s maiden field exploration program at the nearby Aero prospect.
The program aimed to focus on the south-eastern portion of Aero where a large and continuous fractionated pegmatite field covering a corridor of more than 3 kilometres in length had been discovered.
Full investigation
Executive director Andrew Dornan said the “encouraging results” from Aqua had elevated the area’s prospectivity and planning was underway for a full investigation on the new pegmatite outcrops.
“It is highly encouraging to have identified large pegmatite ridges several metres above the surrounding ground running in parallel within deformation corridors across the Aero and Aqua properties,” he said.
“The discovery of lithium mineralisation on neighbouring leases has provided further strong targets for our exploration going forward… our theory on why we chose these properties continues to be validated.”
Continuous claims
The Aqua prospect comprises 63 continuous claims over an area of 32.25 square kilometres.
The geology of the local area touches the Archean sub-provinces of La Grande, Bienville and Opinaca and includes gabbro dykes and a Proterozoic arenitic basin.
Regional faults which transverse the property are host to the La Grande Greenstones which are considered highly-prospective for lithium-caesium-tantalum pegmatites.
Aqua is located 45km west along strike of the Cancet lithium deposit owned by Winsome Resources (ASX: WR1) and 100km west of the Corvette deposit owned by Patriot Battery Metals (ASX: PMT).
