Green Critical Minerals (ASX: GCM) has signed an agreement with GreenSquareDC to collaborate on the development of thermal management products in data centres using very high density (VHD) graphite.

Green Critical believes the two-year deal validates strong commercial interest in VHD graphite’s potential as a next-generation thermal management solution that can significantly outperform traditional heat management materials.

It sees VHD graphite emerging as a scalable product to meet the demands of sectors including data centres, artificial intelligence (AI) computing and high-performance electronics.

Customer qualification

Green Critical managing director Clinton Booth said the agreement highlighted the momentum being generated with the company’s prospective customers and partners across North America, Europe and Australia.

“This is a truly exciting and tangible step forward in our targeted customer qualification program and a strong indication of the rapid progress we have made in a short period of time,” he said.

“This agreement builds on the recent machining of our first prototype heat sink and we are now demonstrating real capability to deliver a lighter, more efficient, sustainable and commercially viable alternative to traditional heat management materials.”

Data centre operator

GreenSquareDC is a billion-dollar Australian data centre operator and developer specialising in sustainable, AI-ready infrastructure tailored for hyperscale and cloud clients.

The company is committed to reducing the environmental impact of digital infrastructure by integrating advanced thermal management systems and renewable energy solutions into its data centre designs.

GreenSquareDC is backed by Partners Group, which is one of the largest firms in the global private markets industry and has over US$150 billion in assets under management with mandates spanning private equity, private credit, infrastructure, real estate and royalties.

Pilot plant commissioning

In January, Green Critical commenced wet commissioning Line 1 of its VHD graphite technology pilot plant in New South Wales.

This followed the completion of dry commissioning, through which the company tested individual components for correct installation and operation.

Line 1 of the plant will produce graphite blocks for customer qualification of heat sink products in the high-performance electronics market and solar-thermal energy storage blocks for product refinement and research and development activities in the renewables sector.

A planned Line 2 will produce greater quantities of graphite blocks for the heat sink market, as well as blocks for the electrical discharge machining market and solar-thermal demonstration plant.
