Preliminary exploration at Golden Deeps’ (ASX: GED) Tuckers Hill and Havilah projects in New South Wales’ Lachlan Fold Belt has yielded “encouraging results” with historic sampling at Tuckers Hill revealing up to 705 grams per tonne gold.

Golden Deeps has undertaken geological mapping at Tuckers Hill which confirmed the location of gold reefs and historic workings that Challenger Mining Corporation had investigated in 1985 followed by Geoservices in 2002.

The mapping identified historic workings over 1.5km by 800m along the ridge and eastern edge of Tuckers Hill and also near the old Hargraves gold mining centre.

Golden Deeps has defined six parallel quartz veins, with historic rock chip sampling at the highest-grade Philips Vein returning between 1.27g/t gold and 705g/t gold.

C W Marshall undertook the rock chip sampling in 1963 with the Philips Vein exploited over the years with numerous shallow pits along the trend.

Golden Deeps also noted recent metal detecting for coarse gold has been evident across the reefs, as well as evidence of small-scale prospecting and mining on some of the veins.

In its own exploration work, Golden Deeps has taken rock samples of select veins and mullock dumps to validate historic work.

Additionally, the company plans to drill at Tuckers Hill to test for extensions to the mined and saddle reefs, with drill pad locations already selected.

Havilah project

Over at Havilah, which is 20km east of Tuckers Hill near Mudgee in NSW, Golden Deeps is targeting a trend that hosts the Cadia, North Parkes and Lake Cowal deposits.

The project hosts the historic Cheshire mine which was exploited for copper. A previous small shallow drilling program targeted this mine but not the wider 4km Cheshire-Milfor trend that Golden Deeps has identified.

Golden Deeps is planning to undertake rock and soil sampling across the belt of volcanic rocks where several induced polarisation anomalies have been detected.

Additionally, former stream sediment sampling at the project had uncovered copper and zinc anomalies that were not followed up.
