Commenting on Mr Roed’s appointment, Global Energy Ventures managing director and chief executive officer Martin Carolan said it was a “major accomplishment” for the company given his track record and global experience.

“It is also recognition of the ambitious program we have underway to deliver compressed hydrogen solutions globally.”

“The 20 years of technical experience in marine design, construction and delivery of tankers will be invaluable as we embark upon the next 12-24 months of development of our shipping program with detailed design, class approvals and working with yards for newbuilds.”

Mr Carolan added that Mr Roed also had “extensive experience” in developing business cases that include storage and port solutions, which will help with delivering the company’s compressed hydrogen projects.

Compressed hydrogen shipping technology

Last year, Global Energy Ventures secured approval in principle from the American Bureau of Shipping for its proposed 430 tonne and 2,000t compressed hydrogen ships.

The company appointed Capilano Maritime Design and Wartsila to advance the previously completed concept design for the ships to a detailed contract design package.

It is expected Capilano will support the company in the next phase of ABS approvals for the ships.
