Flynn Gold (ASX: FG1) has identified a new gold discovery with a trenching program at the Double Event prospect within its 100%-owned Golden Ridge project in northeast Tasmania.

The company has already obtained approval for the first-ever drill program at the historical Double Event location after intersecting multiple high-grade gold-bearing quartz-sulphide veins over a 275-metre strike length.

The new program will target vein swarms beneath these intersects and also drill beneath two other trenches 50m to the east and west of the current work area.

Going Deeper

Flynn has established two drill pads at the site, with Mineral Resources Tasmania approving the company’s plan to commence diamond drilling beneath the trenching area as soon as it has completed its work at the nearby Grenadier prospect.

The company will also dig an additional trench to investigate the mechanism creating an apparent offset of the main mineralised trend, and is preparing to undertake a program of infill ultrafine fraction soil sampling in the hope of identifying further potential trenching sites to the north and south of Double Event.

The Double Event prospect is located approximately 1km north of Flynn’s high-grade Trafalgar prospect.

Exciting New Discovery

Chief executive officer Neil Marston said the trenching program at Double Event had revealed an exciting new discovery.

“At Double Event we have seen some of the best trenching results recorded by our team to date,” Mr Marston said.

“Individual veins with grades of up to 23 grams per tonne gold have been sampled in a mineralised zone which is several metres wide, significantly enhancing the overall potential of this prospect.”

In addition to channel sampling, Flynn took several rock-chip specimens along the same mineralised structures as the intervals that returned comparable gold grades as high as 27.7g/t.

Long Mining History

Previous references to Double Event appear in state government reports from as far back as 1899.

Historical workings included a shaft, a north-driven adit intersecting the reef at approximately 21m depth below surface, and shallow trenches extending east for more than 30m.

Flynn geologists recently located the historic Double Event mine shaft and confirmed the presence of high-grade gold by sampling from mullock dumps adjacent to the collapsed adit, shaft and historic trenches.

Significant previous assay results included mullock dump samples of 7.9g/t, 18.5g/t, 40.9g/t and 44.5g/t gold; and mullock/shaft area samples of 7.4g/t and 15.5g/t gold.
