Wireless communications company Etherstack (ASX: ESK) will join forces with Samsung Electronics on a global teaming agreement to deliver mission critical push-to-talk (MCPTT) technology over long-term evolution (LTE) solutions to telecommunications carriers and governments across the globe.

The two-year agreement will see the partners utilise Etherstack’s digital land mobile radio (LMR) soft-switching technology embedded within Samsung’s advanced mobile network solutions to provide a next-generation communications offering for first responders such as police, fire and ambulance officers.

MCPTT over LTE is an emerging cellular standard that provides public safety-grade push-to-talk (PTT) solutions within 4G and 5G cellular networks.

Demand for MCPTT services and equipment by telco carriers and end-user agencies has been steadily growing in the past few years and is expected to rise rapidly over the next 48 months.

Long track record

Etherstack provides wireless technologies for the LMR industry and has also developed products for main digital radio communications standards known as APCO P25, TETRA and DMR.

Over the past 25 years, more than 20 wireless equipment manufacturers have licensed LMR technologies from Etherstack for use in their products.

Samsung Networks is a pioneer in the successful delivery of 4G and 5G end-to-end networks solutions.

Its advanced solutions are used by mobile carriers across the globe and the communications giant continues to expand its presence in Canada, Japan, Korea, New Zealand and the United States.

The Etherstack-Samsung agreement will build on two decades of Etherstack’s experience in digital LMR and push-to-talk services.

Unique technology and expertise

Etherstack chief executive officer David Deacon said Samsung had recognised the company’s unique technologies and experience in the global LMR market, so was the “obvious choice” to partner with in the MCPTT space.

“We have been quietly working with Samsung over the past 12 months developing secure and efficient solutions to integrate public safety networks used by first responders to next generation cellular networks,” he said.

“Our global footprint in mission critical markets and innovative technologies, as well as a commitment to open standards, will allow us to deliver premier solutions to the world’s mobile carriers for MCPTT,” Mr Deacon added.

In late-morning trade, shares in Etherstack were trading 333.33% higher at $0.52.
