Modular data centre manufacturer and operator DXN Ltd (ASX: DXN) has entered into an agreement with a US-based company related to its recently acquired site in the Northern Territory.

DXN’s first data centre as a service (DCaaS) agreement is with the US-based global provider of satellite earth stations and covers the design, build and deployment of prefabricated technical infrastructure at the site.

The company executed an option in late March 2025 to acquire the Secure Data Centre Darwin freehold, opening the door for the new development.

Strategic focus

DXN  managing director Shalini Lagrutta said the agreement supported the company’s strategic focus.

“DXN’s growth opportunity has always been to not only design, build and sell projects to customers as one-offs, but also to offer managed services on edge modular prefabricated data centre sites,” Ms Lagrutta said.

“This contract exemplifies how DXN can add value to our global customer base in Australia by not just building and handing over these infrastructure projects but also by maintaining and managing them on an ongoing basis.”

“Artificial intelligence has accelerated growth in the space and satellite industry by enhancing data processing, automation and decision-making, enabling faster image analysis, real-time satellite adjustments, predictive maintenance and autonomous spacecraft operations—making space technology more efficient, cost-effective and scalable.”

Total contract value

The contract with the US company comprises an upfront fee of approximately $0.6 million for the design and build of prefabricated modular solutions and an ongoing monthly fee for managed services.

The total contract value is approximately $3.6m per site inclusive of the upfront fee, with the option available for the company to renew at the end of each contract period.

DXN has commenced design work at the first regional Australia site under the initial purchase order and the US-based customer has suggested there is the potential for DXN to secure multiple additional sites across regional Australia.
