Deep Yellow unveils strong uranium results and two new target zones at Barking Gecko prospect
Mineralisation at new zones within Deep Yellow’s Namibian joint venture project remains open to the east, southeast and at depth.
Drilling at Deep Yellow’s (ASX: DYL) Barking Gecko prospect within the Nova joint venture in Namibia has produced “very encouraging” results with the majority of holes intercepting uranium mineralisation and the unveiling of two new prospective zones at Barking Gecko North and Barking Gecko South.
A total 13 holes were completed for 3,211m to test extensions of breakthrough mineralisation discovered in July, which substantially upgraded the prospectivity for alaskite-type basement deposits similar to the country’s large Rössing and Husab orebodies.
Eight out of nine holes completed in February and March intersected uranium mineralisation believed to be open at depth.
Best results were 14m at 404 parts per million equivalent uranium from 81m including 4m at 1,067ppm from 85m; 45m at 222ppm from 120m; 6m at 270ppm from 196m; and 15m at 168ppm from 206m.
Also reported were intercepts of 13m at 126ppm equivalent uranium from 165m; 8m at 235ppm from 199m; and 10m at 177ppm from 77m.
Drilling also confirmed the mineralisation in a discovery hole completed early last year remains open to the east-southeast.
Televiewer downhole logging technology for structural analysis was applied to all holes to improve Deep Yellow’s understanding of the structural setting of mineralised alaskitic dykes.
In-house portable x-ray fluorescence (XRF) assaying was conducted on 1,921 samples and showed the mineralisation to be uranium dominant, with associated levels of minor thorium.
New prospective zones
Deep Yellow said it will follow up all results, including the discovery of the two new prospective zones.
The size of the area estimated at Barking Gecko South is 4km by 0.5km and the results indicate the potential for continuation of the mineralisation to the northwest and southeast.
Barking Gecko North is 2km by 1km and the mineralisation is expected to continue to the east, southeast and at depth.
Deep Yellow’s cornerstone suite of projects in Namibia sit within a top-ranked African mining jurisdiction with a history of safely developing and regulating uranium developments.
The Reptile discovery and the Nova joint venture (which Deep Yellow shares 65/35 with Japanese partner Japan Oil Gas and Metals National Corporation) have a combined resource base of 126.4 million pounds uranium oxide, averaging grades of around 321ppm.
